Reading can now boast ‘gigabit’ status – broadband infrastructure that enables symmetrical speeds of 1,000Mbps, over 135 times faster than traditional ASDL services.
Hyperoptic is the UK's leading Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband provider. Unlike other broadband providers that only run fibre to the green box at the end of the street (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet), Hyperoptic installs fibre all the way into a development, which eliminates peak-time slowdowns, buffering and frustrating timeouts.
Hyperoptic’s services are live in Portman Square, Heron House and Cygnet House, a new build section of Kennet Island development. Many more developments are currently undergoing installation, including the new build sections of Kennet Island. Hyperoptic is committed to extend its footprint across the length and breadth of Reading by the time the year is out.
Reading is a strategic focus for Hyperoptic. It opened an office in West Reading in 2014 for its customer services and warehouse staff and has hugely extended these divisions over the last year – the office now employs over 20 staff and is actively recruiting a Head of Customer Support and warehouse assistant/ driver.
Philip Cooper, Head of Field Sales, Hyperoptic, comments: “Hyperoptic is investing heavily in infrastructure across Reading, to give residents and businesses access to the fastest broadband speeds in the UK. Reading was one of the first locations we announced as part of our ‘hypercities’ programme; so it’s fantastic to confirm that services are now live across the town – we are committed to connecting thousands more residents in the coming months, so that they can live their online lives without compromise.”
Hyperoptic focuses on bringing its services into developments with 50 or more units. Installations are prioritised in buildings where there is greatest demand from the freeholder and residents. It offers a range of residential packages, including competitive broadband and landline packages, broadband only services and contract free options. Hyperoptic also has a range market-leading business propositions, including offering leased lines, shared leased lines and business broadband products.
Alok Sharma, Member of Parliament for Reading West, adds: “I very much welcome the investment that Hyperoptic are making in our local area as they roll out gigabit broadband in Reading. Securing faster broadband speeds for residents and businesses in Reading West will be key to unlocking our town’s economic potential and continues to be one of my top priorities as a Member of Parliament.”
