50Mb speed boost: All you need to know

 

Who got a speed boost? 

Everyone on a 30Mb or 20Mb package (whether it’s Broadband Only or Broadband & Phone, including 12-month or monthly rolling customers) was given a free speed upgrade in September, with speeds permanently boosted to 50Mb.  

 

Did they need to pay for a speed boost? 

No, they didn’t. The extra speed was completely free and was just our way of saying thank you for being part of Hyperoptic.  

Their payments, including monthly bills and payment date, stayed exactly the same (excluding one-off extras like calling charges, if applicable).

 

I’m not a Hyperoptic customer yet. Can I get a 50Mb package? 

Yes, you can. Our 20Mb and 30Mb packages have been permanently boosted to 50Mb, so the 20Mb and 30Mb products are no longer available. We also have 150Mb, 500Mb and 1,000Mb (1Gb) options available if you’d like to go even faster.

If my speeds were boosted, did my 12-month commitment period restart? 

No, it didn’t. The speed boost didn’t have any effect on your 12-month commitment period. For example, if you had 8 months left on your 12-month package, you still had 8 months left after the speed boost – you’re just enjoying a faster service. 

All your package details and terms stayed the same.  

 

Did you boost the upload speed too? 

Yes, we did. If you were boosted to 50Mb, your upload speed has gone from 1Mb to 5Mb.   

 

How would I know when my speed was boosted? 

We sent you a text and an email when your new 50Mb speed was live and ready to go.  

If you’d like to test your new speed, we recommend taking a wired speed test to see for yourself how fast you’re going.  

 

Do I need a new router? 

No, you don’t. Our Hyperhub router can support wired speeds of up to 1,000Mb (1Gb). 

If you do experience any issues, however, please let us know and we’ll investigate. 

  

Did I need to do anything to activate my new speed? 

No, you didn’t. Your speed was automatically increased with no need to make changes to your current setup. 

 

What if I don’t think my speed was boosted? 

If we sent you a message telling you your speed was boosted and you don’t think it was, please let us know and we’ll investigate. 

 

If I’m on a 150Mb or 1Gb package, can I change it to 50Mb? 

Yes, you can. If you’d like to change from 150Mb, 500Mb or 1Gb to the 50Mb speed, let us know. Please bear in mind that a new 12-month minimum period may apply in this case. 

 

Will there be a speed boost for 150Mb or 1Gb customers? 

No, not at the moment. We’re always working to develop our products and service however, so stay tuned for more updates.
