Hyperoptic bring first 1 Gig residential product to UK. Revolutionary broadband prices announced to take on the big players.

Hyperoptic bring first 1 Gig residential product to UK. Revolutionary broadband prices announced to take on the big players.

September 14, 2011

Hyperoptic, the speed-breaking full fibre provider, is launching today, bringing UK consumers 1 Gigabit download and upload speeds for the first time.  Hyperoptic's aim is to revolutionise broadband in the UK by bringing fibre directly into the premises resulting in a lightning fast connection - currently 140 times the speed of the UK average.

This will allow residents to work from home at speeds normally only available to the select few in the workplace, increasing productivity and reducing commuting. Gamers and families where there are multiple Internet users are also set to benefit.

Hyperoptic will initially roll out its Gig services to large residential and commercial properties in London, moving to other UK cities in 2012.

It is not only the speeds of Hyperoptic's fibre offer that are predicted to get the market talking. Hyperoptic's residential pricing will start at a comparatively low £12.50 per month for broadband (based on taking phone service with a £12.50 line rental, including free UK evening and weekend calls).  Their packages will include:

20Mb/s                       Hyper-lite                    £12.50pcm

100 Mb/s                    Hyper-active              £25.00 pcm

1Gig                            Hyper-sonic                £50.00 pcm

Hyperoptic's specially designed fibre-rich network will deliver end-user speeds at the actual speed advertised. This contrasts with copper based services, where the distance you live from the exchange and the number of other customers using the service determines your usable speed. All tests have shown that customers' throughput on the Hyperoptic fibre network will be 95% of their connection speeds.

As Dana Tobak, Managing Director of Hyperoptic explains, "There is a preconception that fibreoptic is expensive and therefore, can not be made available to consumers.  At the same time, the UK is effectively lagging in our rate of fibre broadband adoption,  holding us back in so many ways – from an economic and social perspective.  Our pricing shows that the power of tomorrow can be delivered at a competitive and affordable rate. This really is the driving force behind Hyperoptic and we're thrilled to be the first to bringing this exciting proposition to market."

Alongside speed, Hyperoptic's fibre offers additional benefits including:

    • Functionality of a digital platform that gives customers multiple device access to the same speed at the same time. It can also facilitate a wealth of value adding extras like IPTV (TV over the Internet), VoIP (Voice over the Internet) and CCTV and intranet systems, perfect for sharing information with all the residents throughout a building.

    • Future proofing the buildings it is installed in.  While fibre optic standards currently allow for 10Gbps bandwidths, Hyperoptic's  network can  accommodate the Internet as it grows, changes and develops.

    • Enhanced property value as properties wired with fibre will be far more desirable to tenants compared to those offering just copper services.  Research suggests that these premises also have a higher valuation (ISP Review).

Dana Tobak, adds, "The copper-based networks widely deployed in the UK right now were not designed for data transfer and really can't keep up with the demands of new consumer technologies. As we don't have a copper network to protect, Hyperoptic can go straight to fibre based deployments designed specifically for broadband and other data services meaning we can make each Hyperoptic building a showcase for Britain."

"Building affordable, workable digital strategies is at the heart of Hyperoptic's customer offer.  Our mission is about enabling consumers to make the most of the value that technology can bring to their lives on a day-to-day basis without the usual frustrations of slow broadband connectivity.   Going live today, we really feel we are at the start of an exciting journey in terms of taking broadband to the next level in the UK."
