Hyperoptic giving nine months’ free broadband and vital escape from massive 2023 price rises

Hyperoptic giving nine months’ free broadband and vital escape from massive 2023 price rises

September 06, 2022

  • Switch Now campaign will give broadband switchers up to nine months’ free full fibre broadband

  • Households stuck on slow broadband and facing a 20% price rise next spring can exit their current contract and switch to Hyperoptic

  • Hyperoptic’s gigabit-capable full fibre broadband can be installed at the same time as household’s current broadband, guaranteeing no gap in service

  • Hyperoptic’s broadband will be free for the remainder of the switcher’s existing contract, up to nine months

Hyperoptic is giving a lifeline to households stuck on slow broadband and facing a massive price rise next spring. Hyperoptic’s Switch Now will give free broadband for up to nine months, enabling people to cancel their current contract and save more than £160.

Award-winning Hyperoptic has launched its Switch Now service to help the 19 million households that are stuck in contracts that often give them slow and poor-quality internet, with a price rise looming in 2023.

Hyperoptic’s research found that more than a third of people unlikely to switch are put off making the move because of the cost of cancelling their current contact. And a quarter fear a loss of broadband during the changeover.

Hyperoptic will solve these challenges by giving free broadband for up to nine months to households stuck in a contract. And it will run at the same time as a that of a householder’s current provider, guaranteeing no loss of service in the switchover.

Switchers can also save money by paying an early contract exit fee to their current provider instead of continuing with their contract, and get Hyperoptic’s free broadband at the same time.

For instance, a BT customer paying £35 a month would spend £315 over nine months. But BT’s own calculation indicates an early exit fee of £153, meaning a switching customer could be £162 better off.

Switchers will also avoid their costs going up even further when the major providers apply their annual price rises next spring, which will top 20 per cent, based on inflation forecasts.

Hyperoptic promises not to put up prices in the middle of a contract like most major providers do. Many broadband giants raise charges by inflation plus 3.9 per cent each year, and customers have to see out their contract despite the increase. Hyperoptic’s research found that 60% of people were unaware they would be facing a price increase mid-contract.

Hyperoptic CEO Dana Tobak said:

“This is a ground-breaking move, unprecedented in the world of broadband, but people all across the UK need this support right now. We honestly believe that it’s the right of every household in the country to have fast, reliable, and affordable broadband.

“No one should be held captive by a contract for an overpriced, underwhelming service. That’s why we’re offering Hyperoptic’s full fibre broadband free, helping people switch immediately to avoid massive price rises and make significant savings – typically as much as £160, but often a lot more.”

Hyperoptic launched the ‘Fair Fibre Framework’ this year to support customers with the cost of living crisis. The company continues to ask Ofcom and others to investigate the use of inflation-busting, mid-contract price rises, which are hitting already squeezed households with another price hike that many are unaware they’ve even signed up to.

Hyperoptic’s full fibre network enables consumers and businesses to enjoy gigabit-capable broadband with average speeds up to 900Mbps, which is more than 18x faster than the UK average speed.

As well as offering hyperfast speeds, Hyperoptic also offers a range of competitively-priced flexible packages. Hyperoptic’s set of social tariffs provide essential broadband connectivity for those facing increasing cost of living pressures. Hyperoptic’s gigabit-capable full fibre broadband is available in 64 places across the UK.
