Hyperoptic, the UK’s largest Gigabit full fibre provider, has today launched a new 500Mbps symmetrical service offering speeds over 9 times faster than the UK average. For the first time ever, consumers can now enjoy a 500Mbps service on a one-month rolling contract. The cost is just £39 for broadband only or £42 to include a landline and unlimited weekend and evening calls, plus a £20 connection fee.
Alternatively, consumers can opt for a 500Mbps 12-month contract at £38 per month for broadband only or £40 to include calls and no connection fee. The 500Mbps service provides further choice for consumers within Hyperoptic’s existing product line-up, which includes 1Gb and 150Mbps services. In August, Hyperoptic also launched a new ‘entry level’ 50Mbps service for just £23 per month.
MD and CEO of Hyperoptic, Dana Tobak, CBE commented: “Current 500Mbps services are hard to find and either come bundled with expensive TV services or are on long-term, restrictive contracts. Once again, we are tearing up the accepted ‘norm’ in the market and offering 500Mbps services on the most flexible contract available in the UK, at a highly competitive price. This new service neatly bridges the gap between our 150Mbps and 1Gbps offerings, providing consumers with a choice of packages. The wider range of fibre speeds will also help support the nation’s drive to increase Gigabit connectivity, as the new speed tier will give consumers the chance to experience what’s possible with ultrafast connections.”
To support the launch of the new 500Mbps service, Hyperoptic has introduced a new creative marketing campaign. Aiming to debunk some of the confusion in the market around broadband speeds, the campaign illustrates Hyperoptic’s packages as a squad made up of a runner for 50Mbps, a racing driver for 150Mbps, an astronaut for the new 500Mbps tier and a superhero for the 1Gbps product. Taglines on the creative work include “rocket speeds, down-to-earth prices” and “Ultrafast 500Mb has launched – built to keep busy households happy. Faster than BT, Virgin Media and Sky.”
Hyperoptic’s network is built from fibre that goes all the way to the building, which means customers receive advertised speeds - and consumers of the 150Mbps, 500Mbps and 1Gbps services receive the same upload and download speeds. At 500Mbps, it’s possible to download a high definition film of 5GB in around one minute 20 seconds, compared to 12 minutes and 21 seconds at the current UK average download speed of 54.2 Mbps.
