Hyperoptic wins best ‘HR/ L&D Team of the Year’ at the 2020 CIPD People Management awards

Hyperoptic wins best ‘HR/ L&D Team of the Year’ at the 2020 CIPD People Management awards

September 30, 2020

Hyperoptic, the hyperfast broadband provider, today announces that its people team have been recognised as the best ‘HR / Learning and Development (L&D) Team of the Year’ at the 2020 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPR) People Management awards.

The 2020 CIPD People Management awards are renowned as the most prestigious HR awards in the profession. The awards celebrate outstanding HR achievements by companies and individuals. The categories were judged by an expert panel and the winners were announced in the organisation’s first ever digital awards ceremony.

The win reflects positive results achieved by Hyperoptic’s people team over the last year. As a fast growth business, the company had ambitious targets of recruiting 25 engineers a week, which the team achieved. It is also a reflection of the innovative performance of the team during the lockdown.

As telecom engineers were identified as key workers, it was crucial to ensure continuity of its network rollout. The team quickly and successfully created a working group, adopted a blended learning approach, initiated road-side box talks, all whilst hiring and upskilling engineers.

Judges’ comments included: “Scaling up while maintaining culture is one of the hardest things to do and the people team have managed to achieve this, working quickly and innovatively. HR clearly played an integral part in the business strategy and this is a really positive growth story linked back to an infrastructure and skills story for the UK - this is very timely given that many of us have been more reliant on having fast and reliable broadband over the past few months, and given the shift the UK economy will need to make post-Covid.”
Naleena Gururani, Chief People Officer, Hyperoptic: “We are delighted to be recognised as having the best HR team in the country, by our industry body. I am so proud of the team – they have worked tirelessly over the last year to support the company’s growth, alongside addressing the unprecedented challenge of Covid-19.
“We have collectively built a high-performance culture, whilst staying focused and constantly striving for excellence. ‘Let’s gigabit Britain’ has always been our war cry - and during this time it was important not just to us but to the country that we continue to do our jobs well and connect people and communities. We are so proud of the role we have taken in removing obstacles to productivity and engagement whilst ensuring wellbeing, this win is just the icing on the cake.
