UK consumers set for broadband boost as Hyperoptic ups speeds by 50%

UK consumers set for broadband boost as Hyperoptic ups speeds by 50%

October 25, 2017

The fastest broadband in the UK just got better

Broadband users are set for better choices as the UK’s largest residential gigabit broadband provider today increases its line speeds by 50% (at no extra charge). Hyperoptic is available in 28 cities across the UK and is growing rapidly.

The move affects its two most popular services – users on its 20Mb fibre broadband and phone package can now upgrade to 30Mb and users on its 100Mb fibre broadband and phone service can now upgrade to 150Mb at no extra cost (12 month contract applies). For new customers, the services are £19 and £29 per month respectively for 12 months (£25 and £38 thereafter).

Unlike services provided by companies such as BT, Sky, and Virgin Media, Hyperoptic provides ‘full fibre’ broadband right to the property. This means its services are 27x faster than the average speed a UK consumer receives today and on most packages, provide the same upload speed as available to download – perfect for sharing large videos on social media.
This is part of Hyperopic reinvigorating its brand. As well as a new logo, the spirit of the brand is captured by a Hyperoptic ‘manifesto’ that promises to “put an end to broadband bottlenecks” (derived from using old copper-based technology), to deliver fibre broadband “once and for all.”
Steve Holford, Chief Customer Officer, Hyperoptic said: “Our goal is both bold and simple – to lead a new category in broadband. This will firmly place Hyperoptic as the challenger brand to the so-called ‘big three’ of BT, Sky, and Virgin Media. All three of those companies have been guilty of advertising their services as ‘fibre’ when they simply provide fibre to the street cabinet. Because our fibre runs right to the building, our speeds run over 3x faster than Virgin Media and 13x than BT and Sky. That’s the Hyperoptic difference.”

The new brand and product roll out is part of an increased push from Hyperoptic to increase the availability of full fibre broadband across the UK. Following the additional £100million in funding it received in July 2017, Hyperoptic is accelerating the build of its full fibre network – it is on track to make its hyperfast broadband service available to two million homes by 2022 and five million by 2025.
