Measure your broadband

Sign up now to get a free Whitebox – and speed upgrade!

Cisco ThousandEyes and Hyperoptic

Hyperoptic has partnered with Cisco ThousandEyes, who measure broadband performance with something called a ‘Whitebox’. The Whitebox plugs easily into your router and monitors your connection over time, providing clear performance results which you’ll be able to see for yourself.

– Completely free and won’t affect your connection in the slightest
– Doesn’t monitor web traffic, so your privacy is totally protected
– Access your own performance data and see how your connection stacks up

Plus, as a special thanks for taking part, you’ll get a free 1Gb speed upgrade for the next six months. Just keep your Whitebox connected and you can enjoy hyperfast speeds at no extra cost!

Please bear in mind that only those who received email with a link directly from us will be eligible to receive a Whitebox.

Most popular FAQs

What is a Whitebox?

Whitebox is a piece of software, built by Cisco ThousandEyes, that plugs into your router and measures your broadband performance using a series of tests approved by governments and academics around the world.

It‘s super easy to plug in, and only collects data about the performance of your broadband – so your privacy is totally protected. For more info on the Whitebox, click here

What is Cisco ThousandEyes?

Cisco ThousandEyes is the global leader in internet performance measurement, with a track record in testing broadband and mobile connections around the world. Hyperoptic have partnered with them because we share their belief in the importance of high-quality internet connectivity and giving our customers the opportunity to measure their connection for themselves. For more info on Cisco ThousandEyes, visit their website.

How do I get involved?

It’s simple:

  • Sign up for a free Whitebox by entering a few details.
  • Once you’ve signed up, we’ll send you a confirmation email and then, once your Whitebox is on its way, you’ll also get an email from Cisco ThousandEyes with tracking details
  • Your Whitebox will arrive via contactless delivery, containing really easy instructions for set-up. You’ll then be able to plug it in and start measuring your broadband performance.
  • We will send you login details for their online data platform, Connected Devices, where you’ll be able to see the performance results.

Is there a charge for getting involved?

No. When you sign up, we’ll send you a Whitebox free of charge. All you need to do is connect it to your router.

When will I get my free speed upgrade?

Once your Whitebox has been activated and connected for 3 working days, we’ll automatically upgrade your speed.

As long as you keep your Whitebox up and running, you’ll be able to enjoy hyperfast speeds of 1Gbps until the end of the year – at no extra cost.

If you decide you’d no longer like to keep your Whitebox connected, your original speed will be automatically restored within a week.

How do I set up my Whitebox?

The Whitebox is easy to set up and comes with instructions (which you can also see here). You’ll just need a free power socket next to your router to plug it in

What tests does the Whitebox run and where can I see the results?

The Whitebox tests your internet performance metrics and is only focussed on measuring how well your broadband is doing – not how you’re using it. For more info on the types of tests the Whitebox performs, click here.

You’ll be able to see the test results from your Whitebox on your personalised Connected Devices dashboard, which Cisco ThousandEyes will give you login details for once your Whitebox arrives. On Connected Devices, you can check your results, customise your charts, monitor performance over time, export reports to share – and lots more.

Each month, Cisco ThousandEyes will send you a personalised e-report card, which gives you an update on your internet performance results over time – as well as internet performance-related news and updates.

What will Hyperoptic do with the information?

Your Whitebox results (but none of your personal data) will help contribute to broadband performance reports which are released publicly, and we’ll be able to see if we need to tweak our network for you. This helps consumers decide which broadband is best for their homes, and it also keeps providers on top of their game.

What about my privacy?

The Whitebox only collects internet performance data. It doesn’t monitor web traffic, personal data or browsing history.

We take privacy extremely seriously. Rest assured, the only things we can see about your internet are its service quality in numbers. Nothing more.

Any personal data that you provide us with when you sign up – such as your name, email and address – is held in complete confidentiality and is entirely anonymised in any analysis or reports. Well only be using the metrics from your test results.

Will the Whitebox affect my broadband connection?

Not in the slightest. The Whitebox will neither improve nor deteriorate your connection. It doesn’t provide a wireless network and it won’t fix any issues you might be having with it – it will just measure the performance.

How secure is the device? Does it allow you access to my network?

The Whitebox doesn’t allow any remote access to it. In the unlikely event that we need to help you with some troubleshooting, we may ask you for permission to access the device via a secure SSH tunnel – but this will not give us access to your home computers.
