FAQs about Hyperoptic’s student broadband

What’s the best broadband for students?

The best broadband for you will depend on what you’re using it for and how many of you are using it at one time. You should also think about how long you’ll need it for, based on your student accommodation or property lease. It may work to sign up for a whole year or you may need to roll month-to-month.

Students who are doing lots of uploading (for example, when submitting big projects or bits of coursework) or downloading (for example, when saving important documents or research to their devices) may find that they need faster broadband, with more bandwidth, to ensure these activities don’t take up too much extra time or disrupt the connection for others in the household. We’d recommend a 150Mb or 500Mb package.

It’s also worth considering whether the upload speeds are equal to the download speeds. Some providers offer super speedy downloads, but their uploads may fall short. Hyperoptic offers equal speeds on our 150Mb packages and above – and all our plans come with totally unlimited data.

Reliability is also an important factor. There’s nothing worse than being mid-way through an essay – or a TV show – only to find your connection has dropped out. Full fibre is the UK’s most reliable broadband technology, so it usually best if you’re looking for service you can count on.

Finally, students should be mindful of price. Some providers may seem to offer cheap broadband at first glance but watch out for mid-contract hikes. Hyperoptic doesn’t do mid-contract price hikes and we and if you find the same package for less elsewhere, we’ll match it.
